Out of six winners in the state, half came from English classes at Somerset Christian School!

Kentucky Right to Life Association (KRLA) champions the cause of the “humanity of the unborn child and the right to life” (KRLA). Working through a variety of social media and communications platforms, KRLA informs state leaders and the general public about human life at its earliest, the intrinsic value of each life, and the constitutional right to life.

As part of KRLA’s strong youth outreach, the state organization’s annual essay contest challenges students to choose from an array of respect-for-life topics. This year’s topics included literary approaches to abortion, assisted suicide/euthanasia, destructive embryonic human life research, and the intrinsic value of human life.

At the suggestion of Somerset Christian School principal Mr. John Hale, English classes embraced the contest challenge with guidance from English teacher Mrs. Patricia Martin as a part of their persuasive essay curriculum. After selecting topics, students worked diligently on producing both creative and evidence-based literature. The literary approaches ranged from creative stories to perspective poems to persuasive essays. All students were required to thoroughly research their respective theses as the underlying anchors for their final products.

Once completed, final products were submitted to the KRLA in mid-February to be judged anonymously. The essays were judged uniformly on content, quality of arguments, grammar and spelling, and creativity of approach. Winners were announced for two divisions: Senior/Junior and Sophomore/Freshman. The results were exciting for Somerset Christian School. Out of six winners in the state, half came from English classes at Somerset Christian School. In the Senior/Junior division, Cyrus Adkisson, SCS Junior, won second place with his treatise Abortion Is Completely Unethical Also in the Senior/Junior division, Riley Noftger, SCS Junior, won third place with his essay The Intrinsic Value of Human Life In the Sophomore/Freshman division, Ethan Meggs won first place with his paper Why an Unborn Baby Is a Human Being

Congratulations to all the Kentucky Right to Life Association Annual Essay Contest winners who showcase the “knowledge and passion” (KRLA) of this upcoming generation and be “blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world…” (CSB, Philippians 2:15).
